The F1 Lithium is the result of a ground breaking project where Stewarts design team were asked simply to make the award winning X5 even better. The team was given carte blanche to achieve this task, and the results are stunning. The F1 Lithium is not simply an updated version of the X5. With the exception of a handful of minor components, every piece of the F1 is new. When folded, the F1 occupies just one third the floor space of the X5 and 40% less overall volume. In trademark Stewart Golf style; elegance and practicality have been combined with the minimum of fuss.

As a design team, what do you do if your first product is proclaimed as the best trolley on sale by consumers, journalists, and even the readers of the UK's most popular golf magazine? The answer is simple: design a better one.

There were really only two areas in which our customers and engineers felt there was room for improvement. These were the lead acid battery and the folded size of the product, which it was felt could be made lighter and smaller respectively.

The key to achieving success in this project was subtly changing the purpose of the golf trolley from a vehicle that simply carried a golf bag, to a vehicle that carried golf clubs. The decision to integrate the supporting structure in to the golf bag meant that the chassis could be made to fold much smaller, whilst retaining the unfolded length and width required to maintain stability on the golf course.

During the development of the concept, the design team examined every area of the product and made improvements wherever possible. This process led to the development of a new 36 volt electronics system with integrated lcd screen and wireless connection system, new magnesium alloy wheels with new quick release mechanism.

F1 Golf Bag

The F1 Lithium is unique in many ways, one of which is that the golf bag is an integral part of the structure of the machine.

Features of the bag include:
* 14 way full length club dividers
* Velvet lined valuables pocket with waterproof zip
* 12 pockets in total
* Integrated rigid structure
* Concealed mechanism for locking the bag to the chassis

The F1 golf bag is available in 7 colours (images available soon), these are red, black (pictured), silver, dark blue, light blue, pink and cream.

On every F1 Lithium, the chassis cover will be colour keyed to the golf bag. However, if you prefer you are also free to mix and match the colour of the cover and bag.

F1 Lithium Technical

The design team at Stewart Golf were given carte blanche to create the F1 Lithium, including all internal systems as well as folding mechanisms and aesthetics.

Lithium Ion Battery

The new Li-Ion battery is a custom made, 36V pack that is just one-third of the size of the X3R battery, and over 80% lighter at just over 2kg. The battery pack is capable of in excess of 27 holes of golf, however we can only guarantee 18 holes (please see notes on battery consumption)

36 Volt Electronics System

The new system is more efficient, cooler running and better matched to Li-Ion technology than the more conventional 12V system. The F1 Lithium uses an enhanced version of the NASA-derived software that has won the X5 Remote it's enviable reputation.

New Magnesium Alloy Wheels

The all new alloy wheel design features a simplified quick release mechanism and a thick tyre for quiet running on hard surfaces. Production models will also feature a tread for grip on the golf course.

New LCD Screen

The LCD screen on the rear cover shows an accurate battery monitor and other essential messages when necessary, including telling the user when to change their handset battery.

Weights & Measures

The new F1 Lithium weighs just 12kg, with the battery just an additional 2kg. Folded dimentions with the wheels attached are just 66cm (wide), 47cm (high) and 31.9cm (deep). The F1 Lithium stands up straight when folded, making the footprint just one third of the X5 Remote.

Many customers will be pleased to hear that when folded, the F1 chassis is small enough to fit in the front bin of even the smallest Porsche 911 (the 997 Carrera 4S). The F1 chassis and bag will both fit in to the Bentley GTC.

F1 Lithium Prices & Ordering

As the golf bag is an integral part of the product, the F1 Lithium is sold as a complete system. This consists of:

* F1 chassis
* F1 golf bag
* Lithium Ion battery pack and charger
* 36V electronics system with remote control handset
* Travel case for the F1 chassis

The total price is $4,995.

The F1 Lithium is now available in the USA, but in very limited numbers.

Despite the obvious associations one may draw to motor sports, the F1 name came about during the products development. At any one time, Stewart Golf has a number of concepts for future products on the drawing board. Due to its folding chassis, this concept was known as "the folding one" which was quickly abbreviated to "F1" which is where it stuck.

F1 Lithium Folding Mechanism

The key to the new F1 Lithium lies in it's all new folding mechansim.

The decision to integrate a supporting structure and handle in to the golf bag was key to the design of the F1. This allowed our engineers to create a unique three-part folding chassis that stands up straight when stored.

The handle folds neatly in to a pocket at the back of the golf bag, and this action simultaneously unlocks the bag from the chassis. Once the bag has been lifted clear, the chassis is ready to be folded. The user simply grabs the central handle and rocks the chassis back until it sits vertically on the stabiliser.

To set up the F1 Lithium at the club, simply pull the chassis open so that it rests on all 4 manesium alloy wheels. Then locate the golf bag on the front of the chassis and rest it back in to place. The action of raising the handle engages two fins into the chassis, which locks everything together to create a rigid structure.

When folded, the F1 chassis is compact enough to fit in the front bin of even the smallest Porsche 911 (the 997 Carrera 4S). The F1 chassis and bag will both fit in to the Bentley GTC.
